Jinyi:
I went to see an opera, and it made me think about our
relationship. The melodramatic theme of romance and love the lead roles shared mirrored
our connection and I want you to know that by seeing the way they tortured each
other because of their strong feelings showed me that we have the ideal love
only recounted in stories. Our love is perfect even though we don’t know it
yet.
The woman is madly in love with the man, as he is with her,
and she is always suspicious about him finding another beautiful woman. He
never does and he is clearly only in love with her. This is just like you, and this
relates more deeply to us because: even though she continuously accuses him of deceitful
behaviour, he loves her so much, and never lets her go so long without being
there to console her. She acts just like you when I remind you I love you with
all my heart and there is no other woman in the world. When she hears those
words from him, she is always quick to forgive whatever she is accusing him of
because she can clearly see that she is the only one that he will ever love. She
uses her dramatic behaviour to grab his attention even when he is at work, and
he loves giving it to her. Like us, they have found a flawless love that can
not be judged simply by the outside. I saw the opening love seen, and right away
my eyes felt heavy as if I was going to cry. They acted just like we do. They
almost said the same words we say to each other, and they were deeply in love
without a doubt that it would last forever.
They love each other and would do anything to be together. They
cherish each other and throughout the play, faithfulness between them can be seen even
though they are apart and even threatened with death. The woman is threatened to
death if she doesn’t satisfy the needs of another man, and so she kills him. Her
braveness in love reminds me of you. I cherish you and by watching this opera, I had the chance to
appreciate how perfect our love is. Our love for each other is like a fairy tale; we
experience what others dream and write stories about. We are living our
own love story without knowing it is really a perfect story written by a
famous playwright in the 1800. It is amazing that we effortlessly created what
others must think so hard to write about.
In the end of the play, the man and the woman, who are deeply
in love, are finally given the change to reunite, and to finally live freely
together, until they find out it is a farce, and the man is executed. They were
so joyful before that moment and they realized their love was not coming true, so devastation
settled in. The woman was just like you. She could not live without her man and
she jumped from the top of a building to be with him once again. Jingyi, this
story of love, although it represents our love so accurately, we must remember
that is it not real. We are experiencing the real act and we have the control
to bring it to whatever conclusion we choose. We have an opportunity to experience
what no one else can. Other than existing in story books, maybe we are the only
ones that can have this sort of love in real life.
